Pere Malfait Trail Race : Bussey Brake WMA, Bastrop LA
The Pere Malfait Trail Race returns for its third year at Bussey Brake Wildlife Management Area near Bastrop, Louisiana. The event offers multiple trail distances around the Bussey Brake reservoir and uses the levee-top trail that is generally very flat. The front side of the course is exposed to sun while the back side runs through shaded sections. Runners should expect holes and large ant piles along portions of the trail.

Two aid stations are provided. The start/finish area is fully staffed and will offer hot food. An on-course aid station near the four-mile mark provides ice, water, electrolytes, and snacks. Race-day food includes PB&J, chips, cookies, quesadillas, grilled cheese, pickles, candy, crackers, potatoes, gummies, various sodas, water, ice, and electrolytes; a finish meal is to be determined and vegan options will be available.
Event swag includes a T-shirt, headbands, and a runner light. All participants receive a finisher medal; the top three male and female finishers receive custom plaques. Nearby lodging options include primitive campsites, cabins, and RV hookups at The Oaks at Bussey, and Chemin-A-Haut State Park is about seven miles from the site.
