The Bussey Brake trail system includes an 8-mile trail that follows the top of the reservoir levee and is used for hiking, non-motorized biking, and horseback riding. Much of the trail is very flat, with holes and large ant piles in places. The front side of the course is exposed to sun while the back side has shade. Trail cameras will record pictures and video.
Two aid stations are provided. The start/finish aid is fully manned and offers hot food. An on-course aid station is located around four miles and provides ice, water, electrolytes, and snacks. All participants receive a finisher medal and the top three male and female finishers receive custom plaques. Event swag includes a T-shirt, headbands, and a runner light.
Parking and permits: Bussey Brake WMA is about five miles northwest of Bastrop off Bonner Ferry Road (LA Hwy 593), with north and south parking areas and a self-clearing permit station at the north lot. Nearby lodging options mention primitive campsites, cabins, and RV hookups at The Oaks at Bussey, and Chemin-A-Haut State Park about seven miles away. Registration closes November 20 at 11:59 PM CT.
