Event overview
The Pere Malfait Trail Race takes place on November 21, 2026, at Bussey Brake Wildlife Management Area near Bastrop, Louisiana. The event offers the following distances:

- 8 Miler
Registration opens January 1, 2026. Parking is available in two areas on the west side of Bonner Ferry Road (LA Hwy 593). The site is next to Bussey Brake Reservoir.
Course and on-course services
The trail follows the top of the reservoir levee and is described as very flat. The 8-mile loop is used for hiking, non-motorized biking, and horseback riding. The course includes holes and large ant piles in places, exposed sections on the front side, and shaded sections on the back side. Two aid stations are provided: a fully manned station at the start/finish with hot food, and an on-course station near 4 miles offering ice, water, electrolytes, and snacks.
Logistics, awards, and amenities
All finishers receive a finisher medal. Top three male and top three female finishers receive custom plaques. Swag includes a T-shirt, headbands, and a runner light. Race-day food items listed include PB&J, chips, cookies, quesadillas, grilled cheese, pickles, candy, crackers, potatoes, gummies, soda, water, ice, and electrolytes; vegan options will be available. Lodging options near the site include primitive campsites, cabins, and full-service RV hookups at The Oaks at Bussey, and Chemin-A-Haut State Park about 7 miles away.
