Pentathlon des neiges

Pentathlon des neiges takes place from 13 to 21 February 2027 on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City. The event features five disciplines performed in continuous sequence with the clock running: cycling, snowshoeing, skating, cross-country skiing and running. Competitors may participate solo, in relay, in tandem or in teams of three to five people.

The cycling segment begins with a short run from the start arch to the bikes, followed by several laps on a closed road circuit that includes climbs, descents and turns. The snowshoe race runs on a well-packed track alongside the cross-country ski course; some participants use traditional babiche snowshoes, while most prefer narrower, lighter models. Skating takes place on the Plains of Abraham ice ring, which is 358 meters long; skaters use hockey skates, long-blade speed skates or nordic blades that fit under cross-country ski boots to speed transitions.

The cross-country portion uses the professionally groomed Piste des Braves and allows either classic or skate technique. The running course is a flat snowy circuit in front of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec where competitors may run or walk as needed; doubled footwear with good traction is recommended.
