About the race
The Pentathlon des neiges takes place in Quebec City from 13 to 21 February 2027 on the Plains of Abraham. The event combines five winter sports completed in continuous sequence so that the race clock does not stop. Participants may compete solo, in tandem, as a relay, or in teams of three to five people.
Each discipline follows a dedicated section of the site. The cycling leg begins from an arch of departure; competitors run a short distance from the arch to their bikes and complete laps on a closed road circuit with climbs, descents and turns. The snowshoe portion runs on a well-packed trail adjacent to the cross-country track; some competitors use traditional babiche snowshoes while most choose narrower, lighter models. Skating takes place on the ice oval of the Plains of Abraham, which is 358 meters long; skaters use hockey skates, long-blade speed skates or Nordic blades that fit under cross-country boots. The cross-country ski section uses a wide, professionally groomed track where classic or skate technique is allowed. The running course is a flat snowy circuit in front of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec; walking is permitted and insulated shoes with good traction are recommended.
