Peak Raid Race 1 Hayfield
Peak Raid Race 1 Hayfield is a fell running event held in the hills, moors, and dales of the Peak District. This race is part of a series of four events and uses a 3-hour score format. Participants select their own route to visit as many control points as possible within the fixed time limit. The terrain around Hayfield includes high moorland and limestone dales with a network of footpaths, requiring navigation skills and route choice.
The event utilizes SiTiming to track progress. Competitors can participate individually or as a pair. All participants must be at least 14 years old, and those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There are 15 different categories for participants, including various age brackets for solo runners, men's and women's pairs, and mixed pairs.
A mandatory kit is required for all competitors to ensure safety in varying weather conditions. This equipment includes:
- Waterproof whole body cover with taped seams and integrated hood
- Hat and gloves
- Compass and whistle
- Emergency food and a survival bag
- Waterproof map with control descriptions (provided at the start)
Registration takes place on the morning of the event, and participants start in pre-selected five-minute intervals. Points are awarded based on the controls visited, and deductions are applied for those returning after the three-hour limit. While this is a stand-alone race, participants who complete at least two races in the series are eligible for series prizes based on their three best results. Due to landowner conditions, dogs are not permitted at this event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
