Event Overview

The Paper Chase 5K is a fundraising event supporting the Free 2 Teach organization, which provides free supplies to teachers and children in public schools. It takes place in downtown Huntsville.

Course Details

The 5K course winds through downtown Huntsville and is a USATF-certified partial loop (code: AL18003JE). Due to insurance restrictions, strollers are not permitted on the course.

Registration and Fees

There are two registration categories:

  • General Community Registration: $40
  • School Staff and Student Registration: $30

Online registration closes at 5:00 PM on February 25, 2026. The event will be held rain or shine, and registration fees are non-refundable. Participants must register by January 31, 2026, to guarantee a T-shirt.

Additional Activities

A school participation contest offers a $1,500 prize for the school library or technology needs of the school with the most runners (including family, supporters, staff, and friends). A raffle will award four runners with tickets to local sports events: a family 4-pack for the Savannah Bananas, Trash Pandas, or HCFC, or 2 tickets and merchandise for the Huntsville Havoc. Entry into the raffle requires race registration.

Logistics

Packet pickup is scheduled for February 27 from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM at Fleet Feet in Jones Valley, and on race day at the race site until 7:40 AM. The race address is 109 Gates Ave SE, Huntsville, AL. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
