Panopticons Ultra

The Panopticons Ultra is a point-to-point trail race covering 32 miles (52 km) across East Lancashire and the South Pennines. The route features approximately 4,700 feet (1,430 meters) of total ascent, navigating a mix of industrial heritage sites and rural landscapes. The course specifically connects four distinct art installations known as 'The Panopticons': Colourfields in Blackburn, Halo in Haslingden, the Singing Ringing Tree near Burnley, and the Atom at Wycoller.

Participants register in the village of Trawden before being transported to the starting point at Corporation Park in Blackburn. The journey concludes back in Trawden. The terrain includes various climbs and descents, utilizing sections of established long-distance paths such as the Pennine Way, the Rossendale Way, and the Pennine Bridleway near Boulsworth Hill.

The event is open to individuals aged 18 and over. Due to the nature of the course, participants are required to have some navigational ability. Mandatory equipment Includes:

  • Full body waterproof cover
  • Map and compass
  • Whistle and a mug
  • Fully charged mobile phone
  • Appropriate trail or fell footwear

A 10-hour time limit is in place for the completion of the course. Organizers provide a race briefing, a GPX file, and basic written instructions for navigation. Parking is available near the registration area in Trawden. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
