Outrun Hunger 5K race - and 1-mile fun walk
The event is organized by Rachel’s Table of Western Massachusetts and takes place in person on May 17, 2026, at Forest Park in Springfield, MA, with a virtual option available from May 1 to May 17. Proceeds support programs that feed people in Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin Counties, including annual food distribution (925,000+ pounds donated, delivered, purchased, and gleaned) and a Growing Gardens program that mentors community members to grow culturally meaningful food. Participants may bring non-perishable food for donation; collected food will be donated to one or more of Rachel’s Table’s 65+ partner agencies. Parking inside Forest Park has a $3 fee; volunteers will be reimbursed.

Entry fees listed for events include $35 for the in-person 5K, $30 for the 1-mile fun walk, $25 for the virtual 5K, and $20 for the PJ Library Story Walk. The PJ Library Story Walk includes access to the story "Mitzvah Pizza" and one discounted ticket for the Forest Park Zoo on the day of the event. In-person race divisions are by age and gender; winners for both in-person and virtual races will be announced on social media by June 1.
