Event overview
The Outrun Hunger event takes place in person on May 17, 2026, in Forest Park, Springfield, MA, with a virtual option available from May 1 to May 17. All ages are welcome. The event includes multiple participation options:

Registration fees listed on the event page are $35 for the in-person 5K, $30 for the 1-mile fun walk, $25 for the 5K virtual race, and $20 for the PJ Library Story Walk.
Race details, fundraising and extras
The in-person 5K has age and overall divisions: overall male/female, 12 and under, 13-19, 20-40, 40-60, and 60+ categories. The 1-mile fun walk is not timed. Winners for both in-person and virtual events will be announced on social media by June 1. In-park parking costs $3; volunteers will be reimbursed for parking.
The event is organized by Rachel’s Table of Western Massachusetts to support food programs in Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin Counties. Rachel’s Table reports distributing over 925,000 pounds of food annually and runs a Growing Gardens program. Participants may bring non-perishable food for donation to Rachel’s Table partner agencies. Fundraising options allow participants to create pages; raising $100 or more results in a $25 refund of the registration fee. The PJ Library Story Walk presents the book "Mitzvah Pizza" and includes one discounted Forest Park Zoo ticket for the day of the in-person event.
