Outrun Hunger 5K race and 1 mile fun walk
Outrun Hunger is a community fundraising event hosted by Rachel’s Table of Western Massachusetts at Forest Park, Sumner Ave, Springfield, MA 01118. The program includes the following distances:
- 5K race
- 1 mile fun walk
- 5K virtual race
Proceeds support programs that feed people in Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin Counties. Programs mentioned include the annual delivery, purchase and gleaning of over 987,000 pounds of food, and the Growing Gardens program that mentors and supports people to grow culturally meaningful food. Donations and food collected at the event are distributed through Rachel’s Table’s network of more than 65 local agencies.
Logistics noted by the organizer include in park parking at $3 with volunteer parking reimbursed, and an option to participate virtually with time submissions accepted from May 1 to May 19. Registration opened on December 17, 2025. Listed registration fees are $35 for the in person 5K, $30 for the 1 mile fun walk, and $25 for the 5K virtual race. Participants who raise at least $100 through peer to peer fundraising are eligible for a $25 refund. Registrations placed after May 6, 2025 may not be guaranteed preferred t shirt sizes.
