Outpost 8k : trail race in Flatrock, Newfoundland and Labrador
The Outpost 8k Trail Race takes place on July 4, 2026 in Flatrock, Newfoundland and Labrador. The route starts at the Father Troy's Trail trailhead on Windgap Road, goes out to a large boulder known as The Outpost, then returns along the coastal trail to Torbay Beach for roughly 8 kilometres of varied terrain.
The course includes uphill and downhill sections, narrow single-track and wider paths. If construction at Tapper's Cove Wharf is not complete, the race may follow a detour that increases the distance to about 8.8 km.
Entry cost is $33 plus fees. The registration platform may display an incorrect amount due to a pricing display issue; the actual cost is $33 plus fees. Registration closes on June 30, 2026. Refunds, bib transfers, cancellations, and deferrals are not allowed; all sales are final.
The event is managed on a not-for-profit basis. Collected funds cover operational and equipment costs and health and safety measures, with any surplus donated to the East Coast Trail Association and other local organizations. Participant capacity is limited to 150. The race maintains three categories (M/F/X) and awards medals to the top three in each category.
Participants are asked to respect other trail users, avoid damaging vegetation or infrastructure, and not litter; violations may result in indefinite bans and voided results. Cut-off times are either 1 hour 45 minutes or 2 hours depending on whether the detour is used. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
