Course and cutoffs
The course mixes rocky climbs, creek crossings, runnable jeep roads, steep powerline ascents, and a historic stagecoach road. Each 13-mile loop has over 2,000 feet of elevation gain. The 100-mile total is listed as about 17,500 feet of elevation gain. The terrain is described as technical with packed rock and moderate climbing at roughly 1,000 feet elevation. Water crossings may occur depending on rainfall. The 100- and 135-mile events have a 48-hour cutoff. Cutoffs for the 50 mile give about 39.5 hours and the Sunday half and full marathons give about 14 hours.
Support, rules and special divisions
Aid stations occur at roughly 6.5, 9, and 13 miles; some aid stations include bathrooms. Pacers are permitted for 100/135 after 50 miles and for 50-milers when it gets dark. Crew access is limited to the start/finish. Drop bags must be labeled and will be taken to the aid station on race day. The ruck division requires a minimum 10 lb non-consumable weight; trekking poles and weighted vests are allowed; no podium awards but finishers receive a medal and custom Velcro patch. Doublers must complete a half marathon or longer on one day and at least the 5K on the other to receive a special item. Volunteer shifts earn registration credit.
