Event format
OUTLAST Nashville is a six-hour endurance challenge. Runners complete a 5K trail lap every hour, on the hour. Each lap must be finished within its hour for the runner to continue. If a lap is missed, the runner is out. Completing all six laps means a runner has "outlasted" the event.
Course and participation
The course is on trail terrain, featuring natural surfaces such as dirt, rocks, and roots, with elevation changes. Participants may walk as long as they complete the 5K within the allotted hour. The event is cupless, meaning participants must bring their own bottle or hydration system. Water, basic hydration, and snacks are provided at the basecamp. Participants are allowed to set up their own tents for personal aid.
Awards and ranking
All participants receive a premium event t-shirt. Awards for completed laps include a “Grit Earned” patch for four laps, a “Survivor” patch for five laps, and a premium “OUTLAST” medal for all six laps. The top male and female finisher with the fastest combined 5K time from all six laps wins a 1st Place award at the event. Those who complete all six laps are ranked on a national leaderboard, with the overall fastest runner across all OUTLAST events earning a $1,000 prize and the National Champion title. Event winners also qualify for a separate championship event.
