Courses and logistics
The marathon begins at Cedar Ridge Retreat Center in Vernonia, loops Vernonia Lake, then follows the Banks-Vernonia State Trail for about 21 miles before finishing on the Banks High School track. The half marathon starts at Stub Stewart State Park Hilltop, joins the trail and finishes at the same track. Aid stations with water, Gatorade, Gu and snacks are located at multiple mile markers on both courses. The course is point-to-point; shuttle buses run from Banks Middle School to the start areas and drop bags are returned to the finish. The event is chip timed. Packet pick-up is available at Banks Middle School the day before the race. The trail is shared with other users, so runners are asked to keep to the right and follow traffic-control instructions; dogs are not permitted.
