Vernonia Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay
The event takes place on April 12, 2026, with the finish located at Banks High School in Banks, Oregon. Races run along the tree lined Banks-Vernonia State Trail, a 21-mile trail that includes a gentle 7-mile downhill that drops about 400 feet into Banks.
Courses are point to point. The marathon starts at Cedar Ridge Retreat Center in Vernonia, circles Vernonia Lake, follows the full Banks-Vernonia State Trail, and finishes on the Banks High School track. The marathon course is USATF certified and can be used to qualify for the Boston Marathon (certificate OR16003LB). The half marathon starts at Hilltop in Stub Stewart State Park, joins the Banks-Vernonia Trail at mile 2, and finishes at the Banks High School track; the half is also USATF certified (certificate OR18011LB). The marathon course includes 23 miles closed to vehicular traffic.
A four person marathon relay uses the same marathon course divided into four legs. Relay legs are unequal because of trailhead parking logistics, and teams have seven hours to complete the relay. Buses are available to transport participants to start locations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
