Operation Obstacle 2026 : The Race to End Veteran Suicide
Operation Obstacle 2026 is the sixth annual timed obstacle course presented by Richland Community College in coordination with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care Suicide Prevention Team. The event takes place on September 19, 2026 at the Richland Community College Fitness Center, College Park, Decatur, IL.
The course is a timed, 2 mile route that is mostly flat and includes about 20 to 25 obstacles. Obstacles include short carries and pulls, army net crawls, and features that require climbing over, under, and through structures. A fire truck hose down is planned at the finish line. All participants receive a finisher's challenge coin and a goodie bag. Awards and trophies will be presented to the top three male and top three female finishers after the race.
There are competitive, semi competitive, and non competitive corrals. The non competitive corral is intended for participants who prefer to jog or walk and who may skip some or all obstacles. Participants must be 18 years of age to enter. Registration is online only through Race Roster and closes on race day morning. T shirts are available during registration for $20 with a shirt cutoff date of September 13, 2026. Gift registrations and volunteer opportunities are offered; volunteers may help on the course set up days and on race day and are eligible for a free shirt if they register before the shirt cutoff.
Proceeds support Richland Community College's Student Veterans' Resource Center. An online waiver is required during registration. Check in, start, and finish take place in the Richland Fitness Center parking lot at the north entrance of the Workforce Development Institute. Ample parking is available nearby; participants are asked not to park in the Fitness Center parking lot. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
