Event overview
The Onion Man Triathlon takes place on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Bennington Lake in Walla Walla, Washington. This is the 31st annual running of the event. The race program includes individual and team options: Individual - Olympic Age Group, Olympic Relay - 2 Person, Olympic Relay - 3 Person, Special Teams, Athena & Clydesdale, and Aquabike. The event has a 300 participant cap. The Olympic distance triathlon consists of:
- 1.5K lake swim
- 40K rolling bike
- 10K run
Entry, course and rules
Entry fees vary by event (example prices shown on the entry page). Several events show a price increase after April 5, 2026; Special Teams registration ends May 16, 2026. Registration includes a short-sleeved T-shirt if registered before April 29, a meal ticket for the post-race meal, and one free beer in a custom pint glass; a non-participant beer add-on is available for $5. There is no day-of registration, no wait list if the race fills, and no refunds, transfers, or deferrals.
The bike course follows Five Mile Hill, down Russell Creek Road and back, with a short out-and-back on Scenic Loop Road, returning to Bennington Lake. The course will not pass through Walla Walla Community College; it continues on Tausick Way and turns right on E. Isaacs Ave. The event is USA Triathlon sanctioned (Event ID #310427). USAT members must enter their membership number or purchase a one-day license and be prepared to show membership and photo ID at packet pick up. Bar end plugs are required on all bikes.
