Oakland Marathon: Commitment Day

Oakland Marathon Commitment Day is a free community evening held in Oakland, California, on September 30, 2026. The event brings together local runners and run clubs to begin the countdown to the Oakland Marathon 2027.

The gathering begins with a short three mile shakeout run around Lake Merritt led by Town Strides. The run is open to unlimited participants and does not require RSVP for those who only join the run.

After the run the celebration moves to Oakland Athletic Club. The after-party includes free drinks and food, music, and exclusive Commitment Day lanyards. An event-only 20% registration discount for the 2027 Oakland Marathon is available during the celebration. The first 50 people who register for the 2027 race at the event receive an Oakland Marathon shoe lace and charm set.

The after-party at Oakland Athletic Club is limited to 200 spots; attendees for the after-party must RSVP. A waitlist will open once those spots are filled.
