The Race
This is a 5K race in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. It is the final event of the NYCRUNS summer Ice Cream Social Race Series. Runners receive a finisher medal and a dairy or non-dairy ice cream treat at the finish line.
Course and Location
The race takes place on a USATF-certified course in Prospect Park. The course is slightly less than one full loop of the park and finishes with a sprint up Center Drive. The festival area is located in the Nethermead, accessible via Center Drive or paths off Well House Drive.
Race Logistics
A pace-based start corral system is used, with assignments (AA-F) noted on the runner's bib. Corrals are located on Well House Drive. Bibs are typically picked up on race day starting at 7:00 AM in the festival area, requiring a unique QR code. Alternatively, bibs can be mailed for an additional fee or free for NYCRUNS members, provided registration occurs at least 20 days before the event.
Bag check (requiring a single clear bag), portable bathrooms, and water and electrolyte drinks are available. Post-race refreshments include pretzels, an apple, and an ice cream treat. Race participants receive a tech shirt and finisher medal. Photos are available after the event.
Participation
The race welcomes handcycle and wheelchair division athletes. For safety, these participants must arrive at bib pickup 90 minutes before the start and be at the start line 30 minutes prior.
Pricing varies, with discounts for NYCRUNS members. Overall and age group awards are given to the top three male, female, and non-binary finishers. This race can also serve as a qualifier for the NYCRUNS Local Elite Athlete program, which offers complimentary race entries.
Policies and Access
Strollers and dogs are not permitted. Headphones may lead to disqualification if they hinder awareness. Mass transit is recommended, with the Prospect Park subway station (S, Q trains) and 15th St-Prospect Park station (F, G trains) being the closest. Limited parking is available near the park.
