NYBG 5K Fun Run
The NYBG 5K Fun Run is the botanical garden's second annual 5K held to mark the end of Climate Week NYC. The course is a scenic 3.1 mile route combining road and trail sections that pass through the Thain Family Forest and the Judy and Michael Steinhardt Maple Collection, and by landmarks such as the Lillian and Amy Goldman Stone Mill, the Mertz Building, and the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory.
This year’s course includes approximately one mile of new terrain compared with last year. Although the event is non competitive, clocks are installed at the start and finish for those who wish to track times. Live music is provided by a neighboring university pep band. Participants receive an All Garden Pass admission, a commemorative T shirt, and access to post run festivities; bibs and course details are mailed to registrants who register by August 20.
Course logistics note that runners check in at the Main Entrance, pick up bibs if needed, and self select corrals for wave starts. The route begins at the top of Daffodil Hill, winds past collection gardens and through the Thain Family Forest, and concludes near the Native Plant Garden before runners proceed along the Mitsubishi Wetland Trail to post run activities on Daffodil Hill.
Practical details: participants must be ages 13 and up; no strollers are permitted; the course is not ADA accessible; there is one water station at the halfway point and water at the finish; there is no bag check. On site parking inside the garden is not available for the event; nearby lots and a garage offer paid parking on a first come first served basis.
