The Watermelon 5K Run/Walk Eisenhower Park
The Watermelon 5K is a community run and walk held at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, New York. The event includes an in-person 5K and a free kiddie fun run, plus a virtual option that allows participants to run elsewhere and upload time and photos. Virtual participants receive mailed items on the same date as the in-person event.
The event is part of the USATF-LI Grand Prix and uses team scoring as part of that series. Postrace refreshments include fresh watermelon and drinks provided by event partners. Hydration is available on course and at the finish area. Public bathrooms are located near the start and finish. There is no formal bag check; an informal area for belongings is provided but the organizer does not assume responsibility for personal items.
Registration features include personalized bibs for those registered three weeks in advance and a shirt guarantee for early registrants; late registrant shirts are subject to availability. Bib pickup is available in person from event staff beginning one hour before the event, and an option exists to have a bib mailed for a fee if registered at least ten days in advance. Results are published live online with email and text options, and finish line photos and video are provided the same day.
Awards include watermelons for top finishers overall and for the top male and female in these age groups: 14 and under, 15 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 to 79, 80 to 89, and 90 and over.
A portion of event proceeds benefits the Never Stop Running Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that supports athletic and charitable initiatives. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
