About the race
The Classic Apple Pie HM & 5K is a fall road and boardwalk running event held at Veterans Pier in Brooklyn. The event offers in-person and virtual options and takes place along a paved shore-side boardwalk with scenic views.
Participants can choose between these distances:
- Half marathon (in-person and virtual)
- 5K (in-person and virtual)
Amenities include a finisher medal and T-shirt, fresh apples, and a mini apple pie for every participant. Post-race refreshments are provided by All Round Foods and Waterloo Sparkling Water. There is an informal bag check area, bathrooms within a few minutes walk of the start and finish, and hydration available at the finish line. Pacers are available for both the 5K and the half marathon.
Course details: the 5K is a single out-and-back loop along the shore. The half marathon consists of four loops with two U-turns; runners must pass both turnaround checkpoints on each loop for accurate splits and finish times. Wheelchair participants are welcome, though the course includes several tight 180-degree turns that may not be ideally suited to wheelchair racers. A 2:45 hour cutoff applies.
Logistics note: public transportation is encouraged, parking on Bay Ridge Avenue and Shore Road is limited, and bib mailing is offered for an additional fee. A portion of proceeds benefits the Never Stop Running Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
