Northern Traverse Swimrun : 15 km
The Northern Traverse is a new 15 km swimrun course within the Scilly Swimrun series, routing participants across five islands in the Isles of Scilly. The route joins the second half of the Archipelago course and omits the three largest swims from that route, making this variant more accessible. The course includes open-water swims with a longest swim of around 1 km and trail sections with a longest run of about 5 km.
Logistics include a chartered boat for participants based on St Mary’s and a spectator package planned to offer boat transfers to view sections of the race. Entry options are solo and pairs, with current pricing listed as Solo £170 (rising to £200 from 1 May) and Pairs £300 (rising to £360 from 1 May).
Mandatory kit includes a wetsuit (not a trisuit), a towfloat for solo competitors, a whistle that is easily accessible, and a foldable cup or soft flask. Teams must be tethered or both carry a tow float. Optional equipment listed by the organiser includes pullbuoys or calf floats, paddles, and soft flasks for fluids or gels. Safety measures comprise a dedicated medical team on land and sea plus a large water safety team operating in powerboats. Typical sea temperatures are given as 14–16°C in July and 15–16°C in August.
