Northern Traverse Swimrun
The Northern Traverse Swimrun is a 15 km inter island swimrun held on Sunday 12 July on the Isles of Scilly. The course joins the second half of the Archipelago route and crosses five different islands, with the race starting on Tresco.
This new course omits the three largest swims from the Archipelago route, making it more accessible. The longest swim on the route is about 1 km and the longest run is about 5 km. The course includes technical running, island hopping and multiple open-water swims.
A boat is chartered to transport participants from St Marys to the start island. A spectator package with boat transfers to view parts of the race is planned and will be available nearer the time. The event is part of the Scilly Swimrun series, which features inter island swimming, full island circumnavigations, and routes through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Entries are offered for solo and pairs. Current entry fees are Solo £170 rising to £200 from 1 May, and Pairs £300 rising to £360 from 1 May.
Safety provision includes a dedicated medical team on land and sea and a large water safety team operating from powerboats. Mandatory kit includes a wetsuit (not a trisuit), a tow float for solo participants, an easily accessible whistle, a foldable cup or soft flask, and tethering or tow floats for teams. Optional kit suggestions include pull buoy, paddles, and soft flasks for nutrition. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
