Northern Nipmuck Trail Race
The Northern Nipmuck Trail Race is a trail running event in Union, CT, held on March 28, 2027 and organized by the Shenipsit Striders. The advertised distance is 16 miles, run on the Nipmuck Trail through Yale-Myers Forest, with technical terrain and notable vertical change; the actual measured distance may be slightly less.
The course starts across the road from Bigelow Hollow State Park, heads south through Yale-Myers Forest, crosses Barlow Mill Road (Two Pipes) at about four miles, continues roughly four more miles to the turnaround at Boston Hollow, then returns the same route. Aid is provided in a limited fashion at approximately miles 4, 8, and 12. The route is blazed blue for the entire course and will have additional flagging at a few tricky spots; runners are responsible for navigation.
Parking is available at Bigelow Hollow State Park and is noted as a limiting factor for entries. A trail from the parking area leads to the start and avoids walking along the road; signs direct participants. There is no race-day registration; interested entrants are asked to join the waitlist, and waitlisted entrants are commonly added to the field. Registration opens January 1, 2027. Proceeds after event costs are directed to organizations that support local trails. Awards and race swag are not offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
