Northern Nipmuck Trail Race : March 28, 2026
The Northern Nipmuck Trail Race is an out and back trail event in Union, Connecticut, based at Bigelow Hollow State Park. The route follows the Nipmuck Trail south through the Yale-Myers Forest to a turnaround at Boston Hollow, then returns along the same course. The distance is advertised as 16 miles but is likely a little shorter; technical terrain and elevation account for the difference.
Parking is available at Bigelow Hollow State Park and a trail from the lot leads to the race start across the road. The course is blazed blue for the entire route and will have additional flagging at a few tricky spots. Runners are responsible for navigating the course; there is no penalty for running extra miles.
Minimal aid will be provided at Two Pipes and Boston Hollow, approximately at miles 4, 8, and 12. The event is limited to 100 entrants and there is no race day registration. Early registration fee is $25 plus the registration platform fee. Registrants who withdraw up to three days before the event may defer their entry fee, excluding the registration platform fee, to a future Shenipsit Strider event.
Proceeds after covering event costs are designated for organizations that support local trails; proceeds from the 2022 race funded a bridge at the north end of Breakneck Pond. Awards and event swag are not provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
