North Devon Marathon, Half Marathon & 10k
The North Devon Marathon is a multi-terrain running event that takes place along the South West Coast Path and the North Devon Coast Natural Landscape. The course begins and ends at the Meadow Playing Fields in the surfing village of Woolacombe. This event is licensed by the Fell Runners Association and features a route consisting of public footpaths, private land, and rugged terrain.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 42.2 km (Full Marathon)
- 21.1 km (Half Marathon)
- 10 km
The event utilizes a staggered start system to manage runner flow on the course. Each participant receives a race bib equipped with an electronic timing chip to record their individual time. Because of the staggered start, official awards for the top three male and female finishers in each category are determined by the quickest completion times rather than the order of crossing the finish line.
The race village serves as the central hub for the event, offering a registration area, a water refill station, and a massage tent. There are 12 water stations located along the course to assist with hydration. At the finish line, all participating runners receive a bespoke medal and a traditional Devon cream tea. The full marathon has a designated cut-off time of 5:00 PM for completion. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
