NipMuck Trail Marathon : event overview
The NipMuck Trail Marathon takes place in Ashford, CT and is organized by the Shenipsit Striders club. Race options include:
- 26.4 miles - NipMuck Trail Marathon
- Marathon Relay - two-person teams, one runner covers the first half and the other covers the second half
Shirt orders are available as an add-on during registration and must be placed before September 12. The event is part of the Blue-Blazed Trail Running Series. The organizing club donates to Connecticut trail stewardship and land use programs.
Course and logistics
The course follows a 13-mile segment in the middle of the 36-mile Nipmuck Trail and starts at the corner of Lipps Road and Perry Hill Road in Ashford. The marathon route runs south 6.2 miles to Route 44, returns to the start, then runs north 7 miles to Boston Hollow Road and returns to finish at Perry Hill Road. The trail includes rocks, roots, mud, wood bridges and similar trail features.
Time cutoffs are set for pacing: reach the midpoint (about 12.4 miles) in 3 hours 15 minutes, reach the second turnaround (about 19.4 miles) in 5 hours 20 minutes, and finish within 8 hours.
