Nipmuck Trail Marathon

The Nipmuck Trail Marathon is an old-school trail race held in Ashford, Connecticut. Categorized as a classic New England event, it takes place along a northern section of the Nipmuck Trail. This trail is part of the Blue-Blazed trails managed by the Connecticut Forest and Park Association.

The event offers the following distances:

  • 26.4 miles
  • Marathon Relay

The course is designed as a double out-and-back route starting and ending at Perry Hill Road. From the start line, the course runs south for 6.2 miles to Route 44 before returning to the start. It then heads north for 7 miles to Boston Hollow Road and returns to the finish line. Because the second half of the course features greater ascent and slightly longer distance, participants are expected to spend approximately 60% of their total race time on this portion.

Navigation relies on tracking the existing blue blazes along the trail, as the course is not specially marked for the event. There are nine aid stations positioned along the route, with a maximum distance of 4.1 miles between stations. Some stations provide full supplies while others offer water only. Participants have an eight-hour time limit to complete the full distance. Due to the remote nature of certain trail sections and the presence of steep or rocky terrain, runners must be prepared for limited accessibility.

Registration is capped at 180 participants due to trail and parking capacity limitations. There is no race-day registration available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
