Nikki Cozzi-Carso Scholarship Annual 5K Presented by Chicago Canicross Club
The event takes place on November 14, 2026 at Deer Grove - East Picnic Grove #4 in Palatine, IL 60074. It is a 5K trail event with a paved option, open to runners, walkers, and canicross participants with dogs.
All proceeds benefit a scholarship fund that provides financial aid to local Catholic school students. The event includes awards for top finishers for both human and canine competitors, post race refreshments, community activities, and a participant T-shirt for those registered by October 1.
Canicross participants must use appropriate equipment for safety and comfort, including a padded waist belt, a 1.5 to 2 meter elastic bungee line, and a properly fitted sport specific dog harness. Standard leashes and collars are not permitted in the canicross field and organizers may reassign participants to the dog friendly walk or run if gear is not suitable. A separate dog friendly option is available that does not require canicross equipment as long as the gear does not cause choking or neck strain.
November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and participants are encouraged to wear purple to show support.
