Nikki Cozzi-Carso Scholarship Annual 5K Presented by Chicago Canicross Club
The Nikki Cozzi-Carso Scholarship Annual 5K is a community road and trail event held on November 14, 2026, at Deer Grove-East Picnic Grove #4 in Palatine, Illinois. Proceeds support a scholarship fund that provides financial aid to local Catholic school students.
The course is described as a scenic 5K trail with a paved option and is canicross friendly. The event includes awards for top finishers both for humans and for dogs, post-race refreshments and community activities, and event merchandise for participants who register by October 1; merchandise is category dependent with t shirts for runners and walkers and a hat for canicross participants.
Canicross participation requires specific equipment for safety and comfort: a padded waist canicross belt, a 1.5 to 2 meter (5 to 6.5 feet) elastic bungee line, and a properly fitted sport or pulling dog harness rather than a collar. Standard leashes and collars are not permitted in the canicross event; participants without appropriate gear may be placed in the fun walk or run. A separate dog friendly option is available that does not require canicross equipment; in that option, dogs may wear any gear that does not cause choking or neck strain.
Available entry categories include human walker 5K, human runner 5K, human plus dog canicross 5K, and donation only. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
