The Night Howler 50 is a 50-mile ultramarathon held at Hoover Sports Park East in Hoover, Alabama. It begins at sunset (8:00 PM on the race date).

Course Details

The race uses a lap style format on a 2.5-mile loop. The course is described as flat with a couple of small inclines and declines, crossing a bridge over the Cahaba River and descending stairs into wooded trails. Each runner must complete 20 laps within 16 hours to be an official finisher.

Logistics

The start/finish line and a full-service aid station are located by a building in the middle of the baseball fields. Pacers are allowed, and there is space for participants and crews to set up personal aid stations. Packet pickup occurs on race day from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the start/finish line. Participants must be 19 or older.

Weather and Required Gear

June weather in Hoover is typically hot and humid, but participants should be prepared for any conditions. As the race is run overnight in darkness, a headlamp is required.

Participant Benefits

All runners receive a custom t-shirt. Official finishers within the 16-hour limit receive a custom belt buckle. The top three male and top three female finishers receive custom medals. The aid station offers food and hydration, including hot items like pancakes and quesadillas. It is a cup-less event, so runners must bring their own cup or bottle.
