Night Howler 50
The Night Howler 50 is a 50-mile ultramarathon held at Hoover Sports Park East in Hoover, Alabama. The course is a clearly marked 2.5-mile loop that crosses a bridge above the Cahaba River, descends four flights of stairs into wooded trails, and returns to the middle of the baseball fields where the start and finish are located. Each competitor must complete twenty laps to total 50 miles.
The course is mostly flat with a few small inclines and declines. A full-service aid station is located at the start/finish area and is accessible every lap. Participants may set up tents or personal aid stations outside the racecourse in the start/finish area, crews may assist between laps, and pacers are allowed on course at any time.
All participants must be 19 or older. Runners who complete the full distance within 16 hours or less are official finishers and receive a custom belt buckle; the 16-hour cutoff corresponds to a 19:12 per mile pace. Race day packet pickup is at the start/finish area and will include a race bib and a custom t-shirt; there is no early packet pickup.
The event is rain or shine. Competitors are advised to carry a headlamp and spare batteries for running in darkness, to bring personal cups or bottles because the race is cup-less, and to prepare for warm, humid June conditions.
