Event Information

Night Challenge 1: Crone Maulin is a night trail running event in Wicklow, scheduled for a Monday. The route is a 7.40 km counter-clockwise loop with 407 m of ascent, categorized as moderate terrain. The course is fully marked and GPS devices are permitted.

Course Details

The race starts at the barrier of the Crone Car park. It begins on a wide trail before turning into the woods and ascending the side of Maulin. After reaching the summit, the route follows a short rocky path to a gap in a wall, then turns left onto the Wicklow Way. The descent proceeds on trail past the Powercourt Waterfall overlook before returning to the Crone car park for the finish.

Mandatory Kit

All runners must bring mandatory Level B kit to the event. This includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. A torch suitable for running at night, preferably a head torch, is also mandatory. The specific kit to be carried during the race will be finalized on the day based on conditions and announced at registration. Runners must have the means to carry all required items. Kit checks may be performed, and failure to comply may result in denied entry or disqualification. Headphones are not allowed for safety reasons.

Registration and Logistics

Entry opens and closes in March 2026. Entry costs €7 for seniors, with a discounted rate for over-65s and under-18s. The entry limit is 250 participants. Registration on the day opens and closes before the start. The race starts at 8:00 PM. All runners must sign in, collect or present their reusable number, and register their chip at the laptop desk. Numbers must be clearly visible on the front of the chest. Carpooling is encouraged, and participants are asked to cooperate with parking marshals.
