Newington Library 5K Challenge

The Newington Library 5K Challenge is an annual road race held in Newington, Connecticut to benefit the Lucy Robbins Welles Library. The 2026 edition takes place on May 17, 2026 and uses a flat, certified 5 km course that is described as fast and suitable for timed results with electronic timing. The event base is associated with the library and nearby Millpond Park and Garfield Street.

Entry fees vary by registration period, with an early bird rate, a standard online rate, a packet pickup or race day rate, and a reduced fee for children 12 and under. The first 200 registrants receive a dri fit T-shirt. There are gender category options that include Male, Female, Nonbinary or Genderqueer, and Prefer Not To Say. Packet pickup is offered before race day and on race morning.

A Little Readers Sprint is available for children ages 2 to 5; participating children must have a parent or guardian waiver and must be accompanied by a registered runner or walker. Little Readers receive a finisher medal and event swag. The event includes mile markers, water stations, post race refreshments, select vendors, an awards ceremony, and raffle drawings for participants. Race results are posted onsite and online.
