Event Overview

The event is the 29th annual Newington Library 5K Challenge. The purpose is to raise funds for the Lucy Robbins Welles Library in Newington, Connecticut.

Course and Timing

The main event is a 5K road race on a course described as flat, fast, and officially certified. The event uses electronic timing. There are mile markers and water stations on the course.

Participant Activities

A Little Readers Sprint for children aged 2 to 5 starts after the 5K race. This is a separate, complimentary event for children accompanied by a registered 5K participant, though there is also an option to register for it separately. All children in the sprint receive a finisher’s medal.

A pre-race warm-up is scheduled before the main 5K. After the races, there is an awards ceremony, a drawing for free door prizes (raffle), and post-race refreshments provided by sponsors. Select vendors will be on site. The first 200 registrants for the 5K receive a dri-fit T-shirt.

Registration

Registration for the 5K is open to all. Prices are listed as follows:

  • $25 during an early bird period.
  • $30 from April 1 until online registration closes.
  • $35 for race packet pickup and on race day.
  • $10 for children aged 12 and under, with no price change.

Gender categories for registration are listed as Male, Female, Nonbinary/Genderqueer, and Prefer Not To Say.
