Newington Library 5K Challenge
The Newington Library 5K Challenge is the 29th annual 5K road race held in Newington, Connecticut to benefit the Lucy Robbins Welles Library. The course is certified, described as flat and fast, and uses electronic timing. The event is based at Millpond Park and Garfield Street near the Lucy Robbins Welles Library.
Event features include mile markers, water stations, an awards ceremony, and free raffle drawings for participants who submit their tear off bib number and are present to win. The first 200 registrants receive a dri fit T shirt. Post race refreshments are provided by community hospitality sponsors and select vendors are on site. Race results are posted onsite and online.

Registration fees are tiered: $25 for the early bird period, $30 during the main online registration window, and $35 for packet pickup or race day. Children 12 and under are $10 with no price change. Gender category options are Male, Female, Nonbinary or Genderqueer, and Prefer Not To Say. Participant categories include Youth, General, Virtual Participant, and Little Readers Sprint options.
The Little Readers Sprint is for children ages 2 to 5 and must be accompanied by a registered runner or walker. The child entry fee is $10 but is waived when a parent or escort is a registered race participant. All children require a signed parent or guardian waiver and receive a finisher medal and event swag.
Participants who plan to leave immediately after the 5K are advised to avoid parking in the library and town hall lots because roads remain closed for the Little Readers Sprint that follows. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
