New Balance 5th Avenue Mile
The New Balance 5th Avenue Mile is a one mile road race held on Sunday, September 13, 2026 along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The course covers a 20-block stretch near Museum Mile and uses the same route as the professional fields.
Runners start in heats and wave starts are used so multiple groups can compete on the same course. The race is scored and offers 9+1 credit and club points for eligible participants. All registrants receive a pair of New Balance tech shorts.
The event includes a free Back to School Mile for children ages 2 to 18 on race day, with required registration. Prize money is available for invited professional athletes and for competitors in the NYRR Road Mile Championships heats; professional prize amounts include first place at $5,000 and descending awards to eighth place, while NYRR member division awards include $400 for first through $100 for fourth.
Event services include bag check with only clear bags allowed (no larger than 17" wide x 20" high x 7" deep), reusable hydration cups at the finish area, live unofficial tracking via the NYRR app during the event, and on-site awards for the top three overall finishers in men, women, and nonbinary divisions.
