The course includes extended high alpine ridge running, two alpine peaks, and multiple alpine lakes, with much of the route between about 10,000 ft and 12,000 ft elevation. Reported minimum, maximum and average elevations are 8,450 ft, 11,852 ft and 10,220 ft respectively.
Distances offered:
- 100 km : 65.7 miles, about 14,500 ft gain.
- 60 km : 39.2 miles, about 8,100 ft gain.
- The Double : both distances, entered together.
Terrain varies from cross country and rough non-system trails to jeep and logging roads and established alpine trails. Runners will encounter meadows, streams, boulder fields, mud and occasional snowfields. Wildlife on course includes moose, elk, deer, black bears and bighorn sheep. Cell service is very limited; maps and GPX files are recommended.
Aid stations are fully stocked with fluids, food options and later warm fare for night runners. Drop bags, designated crew access and pacer rules are provided at specific aid stations, and permanent restrooms are available at several major aid locations.
