NEMS Alcorn State Alumni Race for Scholars 5K
The event is a community 5K held at Fair Park, 71 Troy Street, Tupelo, MS on June 19, 2027. Its mission is to raise funds to provide scholarships for students from Northeast Mississippi to attend Alcorn State University, with particular attention to first generation college students.
The program includes multiple in-person race categories—run, walk, and wheelchair—as well as a virtual 5K option. Registration for the main events opens February 1, 2027 and closes April 30, 2027; the standard registration fee for those events is $25.00. The virtual option is intended for participants who cannot attend in person and will be monitored with RACEJOY; virtual participants have separate results and are not eligible for awards, as results are for recognition only.
A Health and Wellness Fair will be held in conjunction with the 5K at Fair Park and will include a blood drive, diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol screening, and COVID screening and vaccinations.
Prize money is offered in overall categories for the run, walk, and wheelchair competitions with amounts of $100 for first place, $50 for second place, and $25 for third place.
