About the race
The Nebraska State Fair Marathon takes place on August 29, 2026, at the Nebraska State Fairgrounds in Grand Island, Nebraska. This is the event's 12th year and the races start and finish on the fairgrounds, with a post-race celebration held amid the fair festivities.
Race distances and categories include:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- Marathon Relay
- 5K
- Kids 1 Mile Run
- Push Rim Wheelchair
- Handcycle
The full marathon course is certified as a Boston Qualifier. The marathon relay is offered as a team option and is noted as a community-building opportunity. All races use the fairgrounds for their start and finish areas, which places the post-race activity within the State Fair environment.
Every participant receives a commemorative finisher's medal and a custom event shirt. Marathon, half marathon, and relay participants receive a gender specific long sleeve technical shirt, while 5K and 1 Mile participants receive a short sleeve shirt. Entry includes admission to the Nebraska State Fair and post-race snacks and beverages, plus one free alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage for participants age 21 and over at bars across the grounds.
Registration fees vary by distance and include mandatory charges. Free parking for athletes and spectators is available in the northwest parking lot off State Fair Boulevard; attendees must enter the fairgrounds through the Main Gate. Spectator tickets are required to view the race start and finish and are provided with a password in the participant confirmation email.
