Event Information
This is the inaugural Navajo Nation Last Man Standing event. It takes place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Shonto Marketplace Trailhead in Shonto, Arizona. The trailhead is located at the junction of US Highway 160 and AZ Highway 98.
Event Format
The event follows a "Last Person Standing" format. All runners begin a 4-mile segment together. They have one hour to complete it. Runners who finish within the hour may line up again at the top of the next hour to begin another 4-mile segment. This process repeats. Runners are out of the competition if they do not finish a segment within the hour or choose not to start the next one. The event has a maximum of 25 laps, for a total of 100 miles. If more than one runner starts the 25th lap, the first to complete it wins.
Course and Support
The course uses the Rail-Trail Route, a primarily dirt path with some sandy sections and a short rocky section near the turnaround. Runners alternate direction each segment, running routes east and west of the start/finish area. The event is cup-less; participants should bring a handheld bottle or hydration pack. A main aid station at the start/finish provides hydration, medical support, and a variety of foods and snacks. One portable toilet is available at the start/finish. Packet pickup begins at the start line at 6:00 a.m.
Registration and Proceeds
Online registration is available via the NavajoYES website. Registration includes on-course support, an event shirt, a Rail-to-Trail poster, a decal, and a neck gaiter. All proceeds benefit community health and wellness programs on the Navajo Nation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
