NAV4 Ullswater Way & Challenge
The event is based at Parkin Memorial Hall in Pooley Bridge and follows a clockwise route around Ullswater. Two route options are offered:
- Ullswater Way: 20 miles
- Ullswater Challenge: 24 miles
Both routes pass The Cockpit, Howtown and Hallin Fell before reaching Glenridding. After Glenridding participants choose either the lower lakeshore route via Aira Force and Gowbarrow Fell or the higher level Glencoyne traverse to Dockray and Gowbarrow Summit. The higher level Challenge section follows narrow fell paths and steep ground and requires good basic fell walking or running skills. The high level section may be closed in bad weather; in that case all participants follow the lower level 20 mile route.
The course is waymarked with LDNP and Ullswater Way signs, with additional signage and event staff at key points where needed. Several checkpoints staffed by experienced event personnel will offer food and drink. The event is not a race; individual support teams or pacing are not allowed. A written route description will be provided to participants.
Entry is limited to 125 participants, minimum age 16. Entry fees are shown for each route. Participants should carry appropriate clothing and footwear, with a waterproof jacket as a minimum. At the finish hot drinks, cake and soup will be available and there are pubs and eateries in the village. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
