Course details
The Nantucket Triathlon course is made up of three legs with the following distances:
- Swim: 450 yards
- Bike: 13.5 miles
- Run: 3.4 miles
The swim begins with athletes grouped by age and organized in a chute leading to the water. It uses a time trial format with two athletes entering the water side by side every 5 seconds; a start clock counts down from 5 for each pair. Race time begins when an athlete crosses the timing mat at the water’s edge. The start is self seeded. Water temperatures are expected in the low 70s degrees and wetsuits are optional. After the swim, athletes exit the water, run up the beach to the upper parking lot near the tennis courts, and enter the transition area.
The bike is an out and back route to Madaket and back to Jetties. Athletes mount in a designated mount zone near the entrance to the upper parking lot. Single file cycling is required at all times; passing should be done quickly with the rider returning to the very right side of the road. The route includes Madaket Road, Cliff Road, and North Beach Street.
The run starts from the upper parking lot at Jetties after bikes are re racked and covers streets and waterfront areas. There are three overlap areas where runners and bikers may cross paths: Nantucket Ave / Cliff Rd / North Liberty; Easton St and North Beach St; and the end of Hulbert Ave into the finish chute. These areas will be staffed with police, volunteers, and signage. The run course includes water stations along the route. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
