Myles for a Mission 5K
The Myles for a Mission 5K takes place in Salisbury, North Carolina on June 13, 2026. The event includes the following distances:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1/2 Myler Fun Run (Ages 8 & Under)
The event raises awareness of childhood drowning prevention and is held in memory of a young child who died in a drowning accident. Organizers state that all proceeds will be donated to a memorial fund. The fund is intended to provide survival swim instruction for children six years and under whose parents cannot afford lessons, to provide CPR/First Aid and AED certification for individuals eight years and older, and to provide other water safety education for families. The event material notes that drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4 and the second leading cause of unintentional death for children ages 5 to 14; children five years old and younger represent 75 percent of child drowning deaths, and boys are reported as more than twice as likely to drown as girls.
The 5K follows a 3.1 mile road course starting from the Grace Lutheran Church parking lot and loops through the gently rolling Grace Ridge neighborhood, covering all three neighborhood phases. The fun run is held on Grace Lutheran property. Awards are listed for overall and age group finishers, including gift card prizes for overall winners; fun run participants receive finisher medals. High tech race T shirts are guaranteed for participants registered by May 31. Timing and scoring are provided by Salisbury Rowan Runners.
