About the race
The Murihiku Women's Duathlon is an entry-level event organised by the Southland Triathlon and Multisport Club for women aged 10 years and above. It offers individual and two-person team entries and notes that mountain bikes are more suitable than road bikes for the cycle sections.
Entry fees are stated as $50 per participant or $100 per team for the duathlon, and $50 per participant for the run/walk. Online entries close on Thursday 8 April or earlier if entries sell out. Pre-entered participants receive goodie bags and there may be a limited number available on the day. All participants receive a finisher's medal, morning tea, and are included in spot prize draws.
Distances available:
- Short Course Duathlon: 500 m run, 8.5 km MTB, 2.4 km run
- Long Course Duathlon: 500 m run, 17 km MTB, 3.4 km run
- Short Course Run/Walk: 3.4 km (approx)
- Long Course Run/Walk: 8.5 km (approx)
The event starts and finishes at the Cabbage Tree with routes around Sandy Point. The cycle course follows Pit Road and connects to mountain bike tracks, returning via Dunns Road to the Cabbage Tree. The duathlon runs use Dunns Road out and back, while the long run/walk follows the cycle course in the opposite direction to cyclists. The day concludes with nibbles and spot prize draws.
