Family Adventure Race - Southland
The Family Adventure Race takes place at Sandy Point, with the start at Oreti Links Golf Course. It is a team event that combines a trek (run or walk), mountain biking and an optional raft water activity. Teams navigate around Sandy Point using a map and search for clues; the team with the most correct answers in the least time is declared the winner, though completing every clue is not required.
Teams may include up to four people and must have at least one parent or adult. The entry fee is $40 per team. The course for the event is released on the day. Organisers provide inflatable kayaks, lifejackets and two paddles for the water section, which takes place on very safe water. Participants need to supply a suitable mountain bike, helmet, walking shoes, a jacket for changing weather, snacks and a drink bottle; dry clothes and a towel are recommended for after the water activity.
Entries close on the Saturday at 5pm before the event and no entries are accepted on the day. The raft water activity is optional and the adventure race can be completed without it. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
