Family Adventure Race
The Family Adventure Race is a team event held in Sandy Point that combines a trek (run or walk), mountain biking and an optional raft water activity. The event starts from Oreti Links Golf Course and the full course is released on the day. The scheduled date is Sunday 6th December 2026.
Teams navigate around Sandy Point using a map and search for clues along the route. Scoring is based on the number of correct answers and completion time; the team with the most correct answers in the least time is the winner. Teams do not need to answer all clues to complete the course. The raft water activity is optional and the Adventure Race can be completed without it.
Entries open soon and close at 5pm on the Saturday before the event. No entries are accepted on the day. Entry fee is $30 per team. Teams may have up to four members and must include at least one parent or adult.
Participants should expect biking on tracks and offroad sections, so bicycles should be suitable for that terrain. Organisers supply inflatable kayaks, lifejackets and two paddles for the water section, which takes place on very safe water. Recommended items include a helmet, walking shoes, a jacket, a drink bottle and a small supply of snacks. A change of dry clothes and a towel may be useful after the water activity.
