MTC Oilliphéist : race overview
The MTC Oilliphéist is a single-day ultramarathon covering 58.2 miles, running from the Nox Hotel in Galway to The Woodfield Hotel in Clifden, County Galway. It forms Day 8 of the Mount to Coast MizMal® fourteen-day end-to-end series and is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series.
Entrant numbers are strictly limited: 20 standard race places plus an allowance of 20 MizMal® competitors, giving a maximum field of 40. All entrants must meet mandatory kit requirements and be at least 20 years old on the start day. The organiser issues route maps and GPX files to entrants before the event and provides a personal tracking device with SOS functionality.
The race enforces preset cut-off times based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this threshold may be withdrawn. Check-points are located at set mileages along the route and offer basic food items; the event is cup-free so competitors must bring a reusable cup.
Entry fees are stated and non-refundable, with an optional upgraded race package that can include an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-visibility jacket when purchased at least four weeks before the event. All finishers receive an Oilliphéist medal and male and female champions are awarded bespoke trophies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
