MTC Oilliphéist
The MTC Oilliphéist is a single-day ultra running event of 58 miles held on 14 May 2027. The course starts at the Nox Hotel, Galway and finishes at the Woodfield Hotel, Clifden, Galway. Much of the route follows the MizMal ® line and the race also serves as Day 8 of the fourteen day MTC MizMal ® end-to-end series.
Entry is limited to 20 standard race places with an additional allowance of 20 MizMal ® competitors, giving a maximum field of 40. All finishers receive a bespoke Oilliphéist medal; male and female champions will receive bespoke trophies which are currently in design. Competitors may upgrade at check-out to a race package that includes an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz jacket; purchases must be completed at least four weeks before the event.
Organisers require a minimum average pace of 4 mph and operate preset cut-off points; falling below the minimum pace can result in withdrawal. Maps and GPX files are provided only to entrants and are emailed about four weeks before the race. Each entrant will be issued with a tracking device that includes an SOS function. The event is cup free so runners must bring a reusable cup.
Entrants must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit.
