MTC Oilliphéist
The MTC Oilliphéist is a point to point ultramarathon across County Galway. The single-day race covers approximately 58 miles (route data lists 58.2 miles) and forms Day 8 of the fourteen day MTC MizMal series. The course starts at the Nox Hotel in Galway and finishes at The Woodfield Hotel in Clifden.
Entrant numbers are limited to 20 race-only places plus an allowance of 20 MizMal competitors, giving a maximum field of 40. The organiser enforces preset cut-off times at checkpoints based on a minimum average speed of 4 mph; competitors who fall below this minimum may be withdrawn. Checkpoints are positioned at pre-determined locations and provide example food items such as malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water. The event is cup free; competitors should bring a reusable cup.
All finishers receive an Oilliphéist medal; male and female champions receive bespoke trophies. Entry options include a standard entry fee of £90 and a plus race package at £155 that includes an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight high-visibility jacket; clothing orders must be placed at least four weeks before the event to guarantee supply. All deposits and fees are non-refundable, with an option to add personal cancellation insurance at booking.
Competitors must be at least 20 years old on the start day and carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
