MTC Macha Overview
The MTC Macha is a single-day ultra marathon covering a distance of 47 miles. The event is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series and specifically serves as Day 3 of the MizMal multi-day challenge, which traverses the length of Ireland. The course follows the MizMal route provided by Wild Atlantic Cycling, taking participants through scenic sections of the Irish west coast.
The race starts at the Killarney Court Hotel in Killarney and concludes at the Cliff House Hotel in Ballybunion. The total elevation profile includes approximately 724.9 metres of ascent and 736.4 metres of descent. Participation is limited to a maximum of 40 runners, which includes 20 slots for single-day entrants and 20 for those completing the full multi-day series.

The event operates with a cup-free policy, requiring participants to carry their own reusable hydration vessels. Checkpoints are positioned at intervals along the route, offering snacks such as malt loaf, cake, sandwiches, and assorted drinks. A minimum pace requirement of 4 mph is enforced throughout the duration of the event. To assist with safety and navigation, the organizer provides each runner with a tracking device featuring an inbuilt SOS button.
Finishers receive a bespoke Macha medal, while the male and female champions are awarded unique race trophies. Optional upgrades for race shirts and high-visibility jackets are available during registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
