Event

The MTC MACHA is a single-day ultramarathon in Ireland that forms Day 3 of the MTC MizMal® fourteen-day series. The course is approximately 47 miles with about 725 m of ascent and 736 m of descent. The event awards a bespoke finisher medal and male and female champion trophies; entrants may upgrade at checkout to include an official race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz race jacket. The organiser limits entries to 20 direct race competitors, with an additional allowance of 20 MizMal® entrants, giving a maximum field of 40.

Route, rules and logistics

The route starts in Killarney and finishes in Ballybunion, largely following the MizMal® route provided by Wild Atlantic Cycling. Maps and GPX files are provided only to entrants and are emailed about four weeks before the event. Each competitor receives a tracking device with an SOS function for real-time monitoring. The race is cup-free; competitors must bring a reusable cup.

The event has preset cut-off times and a minimum average speed requirement of 4.0 mph; falling below this may lead to withdrawal. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first-aid kit and emergency food. Entry fees are stated as £90 for the standard entry and £155 for the Plus Race Package. All payments are non-refundable; a personal cancellation insurance option is available at booking. Entrants must be at least 20 years old. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
