MTC Leprechaun

The MTC Leprechaun is a single-day ultra marathon covering a distance of 43 miles. Starting at the Eccles Hotel in Glengarriff, the route travels toward Killarney and concludes at the Killarney Court Hotel. This point-to-point race follows the MizMal route provided by Wild Atlantic Cycling and features approximately 1,250 metres of ascent and 1,219 metres of descent.

The event serves as a standalone race and also functions as the second day of the 14-day MTC MizMal End to End Challenge of Ireland. Participation is limited to a maximum of 40 runners, which includes 20 slots for single-day competitors and an additional 20 for those completing the full multi-day series.

The course includes four hydration and nutrition stations. These check-points are located at:

  • Releagh (8.5 miles)
  • N71 (16.5 miles)
  • Molls Gap (24 miles)
  • Gap of Dunloe (32.6 miles)

This is a cup-free event, meaning participants must carry their own reusable drinking vessels. Mandatory equipment includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, first aid kit, and emergency food. A tracking device is provided to each runner to monitor progress and for safety purposes. All finishers receive a bespoke race medal, and trophies are awarded to male and female champions.
