About the race
The MTC Leprechaun is a point to point ultra held on 8 May 2027 that forms Day 2 of the Mount to Coast MizMal series. The race covers a total of 43.2 miles (listed as 43 miles in event material) with approximately 1,251 metres of ascent, beginning at the Eccles Hotel in Glengarriff and finishing at the Killarney Court Hotel in Killarney.
Competitors share parts of the route with athletes attempting the complete 14 day MizMal challenge. The standalone Leprechaun entry is strictly limited to 20 runners, with an additional allocation for MizMal participants and a maximum field of 40 in total. The event is cup free so every competitor must carry a reusable cup.
For safety and event management the organisers require competitors to maintain a minimum average pace of 4.0 mph; preset cut off times apply at four checkpoints along the route. Checkpoint provisions typically include items such as malt loaf, cake, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water, although provisions may vary. Entrants must carry mandatory kit listed by the organiser, including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, maps or GPX, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone and a basic first aid kit.
