Event

The MTC Leprechaun is a single-day ultra race on 8 May 2027. The advertised distance is 43 miles (listed also as 43.2 miles) and this is the first edition. It forms Day 2 of the MTC MizMal® fourteen-day End to End of Ireland series. Total ascent is 1,251.3 metres and total descent is 1,219.4 metres. Entry is limited to 20 race-only competitors plus up to 20 MTC MizMal® competitors (maximum 40).

Route and logistics

The route starts at Eccles Hotel, Glengarriff, and finishes at Killarney Court Hotel, Killarney. Check-points are at approximately 8.5, 16.5, 24 and 32.6 miles. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants and emailed four weeks before the event. The organiser issues a tracking device to each competitor; the device includes an SOS button and allows real-time tracking during the race. The event is cup-free; competitors must bring their own reusable cup.

Rules, cut-offs and prizes

The race uses preset cut-off stages based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn. All entrants must be at least 20 years old on the race day. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first-aid kit. All finishers receive a LEPRECHAUN medal; male and female champions receive trophies. Entry fees are listed at £90 and a Plus Race Package at £155.
