MTC Grindelo - event description
The MTC Grindelo is a single-day ultra running event held as part of the Mount to Coast Albion series and listed as Day 5 of a thirteen day end to end challenge of England. The published route runs from The Swan at Tarporley to Travelodge Shrewsbury Battlefield and follows the same corridor used by the organiser's JOGLE event with reduced daily distances. The route summary lists a total distance of 34.5 miles with 1328 ft of ascent and 1271 ft of descent.
Competitor fields are limited to 20 regular entries with an additional allowance of 20 Albion entrants for a maximum of 40 participants. Entrants must be at least 20 years old on the start day. The race enforces preset cut off times based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 miles per hour; competitors who fall below this threshold may be withdrawn.
Check points are positioned along the route and will serve food items such as malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, drinks and water. The event is cup free and competitors must bring a reusable cup. All entrants must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, an emergency food pack and a basic first aid kit. The organiser issues a tracking device to each competitor which provides real time tracking and an SOS function.
Finishers receive a Grindelo medal and male and female champions receive bespoke trophies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
