Event details
The MTC Grindelo is a single-day ultra event on 14 July 2029 and is listed as Day 5 of the MTC ALBION end-to-end series. The course total is given as 34.5 miles with about 1,328 ft of ascent and 1,271 ft of descent. Competitor numbers are limited to 20, with an additional allowance of 20 for ALBION entrants (maximum 40). Entry options and fees are published: standard entry £90.00 and a Plus Race Package at £155.00 (includes a race shirt and hi-viz jacket if ordered at least four weeks before the event). All finishers receive a Grindelo medal; male and female champions also receive bespoke trophies.
Course, logistics and rules
The route runs from The Swan at Tarporley to Travelodge Shrewsbury Battlefield and follows the same route used for the MTC JOGLE event but with reduced daily distances. Check points are located approximately at 8.8 miles (CP1), 17.0 miles (CP2), and 25.1 miles (CP3) along the route. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants and tracking devices with SOS buttons are issued to monitor progress in real time.
The event is cup-free; competitors must bring a reusable cup. A mandatory kit list is enforced, including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, maps (provided), compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. The organisers apply a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors falling below this threshold may be withdrawn. Entrants must be aged 20 or over on the start day.
