Event Overview
The MTC Dullahan is a single-day ultramarathon covering a distance of 46 miles. It is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series and also serves as Day 6 of the larger, 14-day MizMal® End to End of Ireland challenge. The race will be held on the 12th of May 2027.
The Route
The point-to-point course starts at Bellbridge House in Spanish Point, County Clare, and finishes at the Hylands Burren Hotel in Ballyvaughan, County Clare. Most of the route follows the established MizMal® route. The total distance is divided by four checkpoints:
- CP1 at 9.7 miles in Lahinch.
- CP2 at 18 miles.
- CP3 at 26 miles in Gortacarnaun.
- CP4 at 34.9 miles on the N67.
Participant Information
The event has a strict participant limit of 40 runners: 20 for the standalone MTC Dullahan and an additional 20 for competitors undertaking the full MizMal® multi-day challenge. A minimum average pace of 4 miles per hour is enforced; participants falling below this pace risk withdrawal. The event is cup-free, requiring runners to bring their own reusable cup.
Checkpoints will provide food items which may include malt loaf, cake, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola, and water. All finishers receive a bespoke Dullahan medal, with separate trophies awarded to the male and female champions. An optional race package includes an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz jacket.
Rules and Requirements
Entry is limited to individuals aged 20 or over on the race day. A specific mandatory kit list must be carried, including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, a compass or GPS device, a whistle, a mobile phone, an emergency food pack, and a basic first aid kit. Competitors will be issued a tracking device for monitoring and emergency SOS functionality.
Entry fees are non-refundable, though a deferral option to the following year is available for a £15 fee if requested at least four weeks before the event. Personal cancellation insurance can be added during checkout. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
