Move for Adoption
Move for Adoption is a community walk and run presented by Iowans for Adoption with title sponsor Iowa Farm Bureau. The event takes place on October 18, 2026 at Ada Hayden Park in Ames, Iowa. Its purpose is to raise awareness and funds to help children find safe, permanent, loving homes through adoption and foster care education, family assistance, and community outreach.
The event offers multiple ways to participate and several registration categories with included items: a 5K runner registration is $35, an in-person walker or spectator rate is $20, a virtual participant rate is $30, and a family of four walkers rate is $65. Registrations include a short-sleeved shirt, registration, food, beverages, balloons, and event swag. Medals are awarded for first place in many age categories. Virtual participants receive a shirt mailed to them.
Distances and participation formats include:
- 5K run
- Kids fun run
- Any distance walk, run, roll, stroll, or watch (from .01 miles to endless)
The event also aims to recruit foster and adoptive families, educate communities about foster care and adoption, provide assistance to families pursuing permanency, and build community support for children waiting for permanent homes.
