Mountain State Forest Festival 10K and 5K Run/Walk and Pump n Run
The event in Elkins, West Virginia, includes a set of organized runs and a combined strength-and-run competition held as part of the Mountain State Forest Festival. The start/finish area is at 5th Street and Davis Avenue, and the run course takes place on Davis Avenue near the Elkins/Randolph County YMCA. Distances offered include:
- 10K run
- 5K run/walk
- Pump n Run bench press plus 5K
- Kids 1 Mile Challenge, free for kids 10 and under
The Pump n Run combines a weigh-in and bench press followed by a 5K. Competitors bench press a percentage of their body weight by age and sex for as many reps as possible, up to 30 reps; each rep reduces the 5K time by 30 seconds, with a maximum deduction of 15 minutes. Pump n Run competitors must be 18 or older. Pump n Run registration takes place at Anytime Fitness, 46 Plantation Drive, Elkins.
Rules require participants to complete the marked course and to run or walk only in the event in which they are registered; the committee's decisions on finishing places and disqualifications are final. Awards include trophies to first and second overall male and female finishers and first and second in age divisions. Age groups for the 10K and 5K are 19-Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-Over. Pump n Run age groups are 18-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-Over.
