Mountain Masochist Trail Run - November 7, 2026
Mountain Masochist Trail Run is a trail ultramarathon that begins and ends at the Montebello Campground in Montebello, Virginia. The event uses the historical MMTR course run in reverse toward the Mount Pleasant Loop and then continues south through national forest over a mix of single track, dirt, and gravel roads.
Course changes for 2026 increase time on single track and in the mountains and reduce time on gravel roads. Near Mount Pleasant runners follow the Old Hotel Trail and old jeep roads toward Long Mountain Wayside. After the Long Mountain aid station the route includes dirt and old logging roads plus several miles of single track. The final segment drops downhill for 3.5 miles toward Rt 56 and the campground finish. The course passes through parts of the Blue Ridge that are near peak fall foliage.
Practical notes for 2026 include site-specific camping reservations available through the event registration system and cabin rentals handled through the Montebello Campground. Training runs and trail work are planned in October with dates to be determined. There is a pre-race briefing in Montebello and a post-race meal for finishers.
