Mountain Masochist Trail Run, Montebello VA
The Mountain Masochist Trail Run is scheduled for November 7, 2026 in Montebello, Virginia, with multiple ultramarathon distance options. The race begins and ends at the Montebello Campground and follows the historical MMTR course run in reverse toward the Mount Pleasant Loop, using a mix of old and new trails.
The route moves southward over dirt and gravel roads within the National Forest and, with recent course changes, includes more time on mountain single track and less on gravel roads. Near Mount Pleasant runners follow the Old Hotel Trail and old jeep roads toward Long Mountain Wayside. After Long Mountain, the second half includes dirt and old logging roads plus several miles of single track. The final aid station is at Porters Ridge, after which the course descends about 3.5 miles toward Route 56 and the campground finish. The course traverses Blue Ridge areas noted for fall foliage.
Practical notes include campsite reservations available through Ultrasignup and cabin rentals handled by the Montebello Campground. Training runs and trail work are planned for October with dates to be determined. There is a pre-race briefing in Montebello and a post-race meal at the finish for finishers. National Geographic Map number 789 covers the area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
