Mountain Masochist Trail Run - November 7, 2026
The Mountain Masochist Trail Run is a multi-distance trail running event held in Montebello, Virginia, with the course beginning and ending at the Montebello Campground. The event follows the historical MMTR route run in reverse toward the Mount Pleasant Loop and then proceeds southward through National Forest land, using a mix of single track, old jeep roads, dirt and logging roads, and some gravel roads.
Recent course changes increase the time spent on mountain single track and reduce the time on gravel roads. Near Mount Pleasant the route follows the Old Hotel Trail and jeep roads toward Long Mountain Wayside. After Long Mountain aid station the second half includes several miles of single track and finishes with a 3.5 mile descent to Rt 56 and the Montebello Campground from Porters Ridge. The course traverses areas of the Blue Ridge that are near peak fall foliage.
Distances offered include:
- 100K
- 50 Miler
- 50K
Additional event activities in October include group training runs that start at the Montebello Store and out-and-back route options with common turnaround points at Forest Valley (about 18 miles) or Salt Log Gap (about 20 miles). Trail work is scheduled in October and event updates are posted to the MMTR Instagram. A pre-race briefing is held in Montebello and a post-race meal is provided at the finish.
