Mountain Masochist Trail Run, November 7, 2026
The Mountain Masochist Trail Run takes place in Montebello, VA and uses Montebello Campground as the start and finish location. The event offers multiple ultramarathon distances and follows a course that includes a mix of old and new trails, dirt and gravel roads, and extended single track sections through the National Forest.
Distances:
- 100K
- 50 Miler
- 50K
The route runs the historical MMTR course in reverse toward the Mount Pleasant Loop, then meanders south over forest roads. Course changes for 2026 increase time on mountain single track and reduce time on gravel roads. Near Mount Pleasant, runners follow the Old Hotel Trail and old jeep roads toward Long Mountain Wayside. After the Long Mountain aid station, the second half includes dirt and old logging roads plus several miles of single track. The final aid station is at Porters Ridge, followed by a 3.5 mile descent to Rt 56 and the Montebello Campground finish. The full course passes through Blue Ridge areas that are near peak fall foliage in early November.
Additional event notes for 2026 include site specific camping reservations available through the event registration system, a campground site map, training runs and trail work in October with dates to be announced, and a pre-race briefing and a post-race meal at the finish. National Geographic Map #789 covers the local topography. Registration closes Wed, Nov 4 at 11:59 PM ET. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
