Mountain Creek Mayhem
Mountain Creek Mayhem is a trail running event at Pine Grove Furnace State Park in Gardners, PA, presented by Meatball Runners. Distances offered include:
- 50K
- 20 mile
- Half marathon
The courses run through the northern Michaux State Forest and include sandstone boulder ridgelines, mountain laurel and wild blueberry sections, rocky and rooty single-track, pine-needle surfaces, grassy double track, and technical forest paths.
The 50K course is described as roughly 33 miles with 4,400+ feet of elevation gain and visits multiple viewpoints. Aid stations are staffed at several miles and provide water, electrolyte (Tailwind), Coke and ginger ale, fruit, potatoes or potato chips, Fritos, cookies including gluten-free options, gels and blocks, stroop waffles, candy, Rice Krispie treats, pickles, occasional meatballs, and menstrual products. There is one drop bag location at Brickyard (mile 19.7). Crew access is allowed at Brickyard and Laurel Lake. Time limit for the 50K is 10 hours.
The 20 mile course covers the first section of the 50K, with about 3,000 feet of elevation gain. Aid stations are located on that route; there is no drop bag option and no crew access for the 20 mile race. Time limit is 7 hours.
The half marathon is roughly 13.1 miles with 1,400+ feet of elevation gain. Aid stations, crew access at Laurel Lake (mile 3.3), and no drop bag option are provided. The half marathon has a 7 hour time limit; awards are based on lowest completion times and there are no separate hike or ruck divisions.
Race headquarters are located in the grassy field behind the bath house at the Fuller Lake Day Use Area in Pine Grove Furnace State Park, with restroom, shower, and parking facilities nearby. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
