The courses run over varied terrain including sandstone boulder ridgelines, woodland savannah, mountain laurel and wild blueberry patches, rocky single track, rooty ridgelines, pine needle carpet, grassy double track, and technical forest paths. The 50K uses a loop that visits multiple viewpoints; the 20 Miler follows the first 20 miles of the 50K course.
Aid stations appear at named mileages for each race and offer water, electrolyte drink (Tailwind), Coke, ginger ale, fruit, potatoes or chips, Fritos, cookies including gluten free, gels and blocks, stroop waffles, candy, Rice Krispie treats, pickles, occasional meatballs, and menstrual products.
Logistics differ by distance. The 50K includes a drop bag location at Brickyard and crew access at Brickyard and Laurel Lake with a 10 hour time limit. The 20 Miler has no drop bag or crew access and a 7 hour time limit. The Half Marathon has crew access at Laurel Lake, no drop bag option, and an 8.5 hour time limit; awards are based on fastest finish times with no separate hike or ruck divisions.
