Mount Helena Run

The 50th Mount Helena Run will take place Saturday, September 26, 2026, in Helena, Montana. The event is a 5.6 mile (9 kilometer) out-and-back course that starts on Last Chance Gulch in downtown Helena and returns to the same finish area.

The course moves quickly from city streets to trails in Mt. Helena City Park. Runners gain and lose about 1,300 feet in elevation. The route includes roughly 1.5 miles on roads and over 4 miles on single track trail. Key trail segments named in the course description include the 1906 trail, Prairie trail, West End trail, Backside trail, and Hogback trail.

Runners reach the top of Mount Helena before following the 1906 trail back to the Mount Helena trailhead and retracing their steps to the finish on Last Chance Gulch. The route provides views of the City of Helena, Prickly Pear Valley, and the Elkhorn and Big Belt Mountains.
