Monument Marathon
The Monument Marathon is an annual running event located in Scottsbluff and Gering, Nebraska. The race serves as a fundraiser to support student scholarships. Participants can choose from three distinct distances that showcase the local landscape and historical landmarks:
- Full Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 5K
The Full Marathon starts in the Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area. The course descends into Gering Valley and follows the historic Oregon Trail. A unique feature of this route is that it circles the Scotts Bluff National Monument on trails that are generally closed to the public and accessible only on this specific day of the year.
The Half Marathon begins at the Robidoux RV park, located near the final destination at Five Rocks Amphitheater. This course joins the marathon route and gains elevation through Mitchell Pass. Runners complete a 360 degree circle of the Monument, passing through badlands, cornfields, and local neighborhoods.
The 5K route provides views of the Scotts Bluff National Monument and Dome Rock. This course consists of a mixed surface, with half the distance on pavement and the other half on gravel and dirt. All races conclude at the Five Rocks Amphitheater. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
