Monterey Bay Half Marathon
The Monterey Bay Half Marathon is an annual running event held in the coastal region of California. The weekend features multiple race distances held across two cities:
- Half Marathon (21.1 km)
- Pacific Grove Lighthouse 5K
- By-the-Bay 3K
- Ocean View Challenge
The half marathon course is USATF certified and takes runners through historic downtown Monterey. The route continues along Cannery Row and follows the shoreline of Pacific Grove. The race has a total elevation gain and loss of 106 feet, with a starting elevation of 7 feet and a finish elevation of 19 feet. Participants in the half marathon must adhere to a 3.5 hour time limit, which requires maintaining an approximate pace of 16 minutes per mile.
The event weekend includes a Race Expo and packet pick-up for participants. A finish festival is held on race day, and designated areas are available for spectator viewing. The marathon foundation operates this as a zero-waste event with a focus on sustainability. Additional resources for participants include training plans, a virtual course tour, and a race weekend schedule covering parking and transportation details.
