The 5K Monarch March
The event is a community 5K walk and run held at Busse Woods, Picnic Grove 32 in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. The picnic grove is accessed from Biesterfield Road just east of I-290; organizers note the entrance is near Alexian Brothers Hospital and recommend following posted signs to reach the parking area. A Starbucks and a Dunkin are located on Biesterfield Road past the hospital.
The route includes a peaceful 1.6-mile segment with a marked turnaround that guides participants back to the picnic area. The trail is described as flat and accessible. A running clock will be available at the start area. Bathroom facilities are provided on site.
Pre-registered participants can pick up race T-shirts at check-in; T-shirts are not available for late sign-ups. Regular registration carries a listed fee of $40 and walk-in registration is offered at a reduced fee of $30. After the walk and run, snacks and backyard games are planned, weather permitting.
The Monarch Organization holds the event to support pediatric causes and to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Organizers state that proceeds are donated to organizations serving children in need. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
