Event Overview
The Mon & Brec Canal 40 Mile Race is a point-to-point run along the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal towpath. It starts in Malpas and finishes at Brecon Basin.
Course & Setting
The route follows the peaceful canal towpath, passing locks, bridges, villages, and open countryside. The journey goes through quiet landscapes into the Brecon Beacons.
Event Details
The event has a 15-hour overall time limit. There are three fully supported checkpoints along the route, providing snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, seating, and power banks. A Race Director calls each participant a couple of days before the event for a check-in.
Participant Requirements
The minimum age for entry is 18. Runners must carry mandatory kit including suitable footwear, a water carrier (minimum 1 litre), a mobile phone, a head torch or light source, a survival or bivvy bag, a waterproof jacket, and a rucksack or running pack. Dietary requirements can be specified during sign-up.
What's Included
Entry includes a commemorative finish memento, post-run care at the finish, support at the three checkpoints, and support from the event crew and volunteers.
Logistics & Fees
The entry fee is £45 for club-attached runners and £47 for unattached runners, including booking fees. Refunds are available on a sliding scale until April 2, 2026, after which no refunds are given. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
