Mon & Brec Canal 40 Mile Race
The Mon & Brec Canal 40 mile race is a point to point running event along the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal, running from Malpas to Brecon Basin on Saturday 25 April 2026. The route follows the canal towpath through quiet countryside, passing locks, bridges, villages, waterways and open landscapes. The towpath is described as mostly firm and flat, so suitable trail or road running footwear is recommended.
The event has an overall time limit of 15 hours and includes three fully supported checkpoints stocked with snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, seating, power banks and music. Entry includes a commemorative Canalrace finish memento and post-run care. The organisers describe the event as community led and supported by a crew of volunteers and canal communities.
Mandatory kit requirements include suitable trail or road running footwear, a water carrier with at least 1 litre capacity, a mobile phone, a head torch or other light source, a survival bag or bivvy bag, a waterproof jacket and a rucksack or running pack. The minimum age for entry is 18. Entries open on 18 December 2025 and close on 18 April 2026; the entry fee is £45 for attached runners and £47 for unattached runners.
Cancellations receive refunds on a sliding scale: 95% before 31 January 2026, 75% between 1 February and 2 March 2026, 50% between 3 March and 2 April 2026, and no refund after 3 April 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
