Moggill Marathon
The Moggill Marathon is a community fun-run event held in the Moggill area in the Western Suburbs of Brisbane. The event offers multiple distances to suit a range of participants and includes sections of varied terrain with notable elevation changes, locally nicknamed Mount Moggill.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- Marathon
- Half marathon
- 10 km
- 5 km
- 2 km fun run
The course has AIMS certification, so race results can be recognised at an international level. Early editions of the event started and finished at Westaway Park and the routes include multi-lap and out-and-back sections. Organisers advise participants to expect hills and to prepare for climbs and undulating sections along the course.
The event operates as a not for profit activity and supports community causes. A primary beneficiary is Bravery Box, which supports children undergoing cancer treatment, and the event also benefits local community groups. Heritage Bank is named as a major sponsor. Volunteers assist with pre-race preparation, onsite registration, water stations and providing course information, and the event involves local schools, businesses and community organisations.
